Taoyuan City (桃園市) is a newly formed special municipality that covers what used to be Taoyuan county. Since the amalgamation of the county into a super city a number of urban development projects have taken place which have helped to transform the municipality into an economic powerhouse. Taoyuan has always had a reputation for being an industrial hub of Taipei and the large technology parks within the city are a testament to the economic viability of the city. The industrial parks have brought with them a somewhat notorious reputation, however under the new city government sustainable development has become an important factor and the government has worked hard to beautify the city. Taoyuan is home to vibrant Hakka culture and cuisine as well as the International Airport, the beautiful Shimen Reservoir (石門水庫), The resting place of Chiang Kai Shek (蔣介石) and Chiang Ching-Kuo (蔣經國) as well as La-La Mountain (拉拉山) and Dongyanshan (東眼山) national parks. Don't be fooled by its reputation, Taoyuan is a great place to live and visit!
